Who are Motability?

Motability support people with disabilities in achieving greater independence, through access to affordable, worry-free mobility.

Through this scheme they currently lease over 600,000 vehicles and are passionate about improving the lives of their customers and families whilst making sure their needs are met.

The charity offers unbeatable value for money as well as award winning customer service with all profits reinvested back into the scheme for the benefit of their customers.

The Motability Scheme enables anyone in receipt of a higher rate mobility allowance (such as the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment or the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance) to use their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.

You simply exchange all, or part of your mobility allowance to lease the vehicle of your choice. You choose the vehicle you want at a price that works for you, and payments are deducted from your higher rate mobility allowance every four weeks, then paid directly to us by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The standard lease is over three years, or five years if you are leasing a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle and all of your running costs such as insurance for up to three named drivers (this doesn’t have to be you), servicing, maintenance, breakdown cover, tyre repair and replacement and windscreen repairs is covered by your agreement. All you need to do is add fuel and go.

Our vehicles can be adapted and tailored to the driving needs of a disabled person. However, you don’t have to be a driver to qualify for one of the Motability schemes. Non drivers who receive the mobility allowance can obtain a vehicle as a passenger and propose up to two other people as permitted drivers (such as family or carers). Applications can also be made on behalf of a child, aged three and over, in receipt of the allowance.

Lots of our customers don't drive. That's why the insurance with your lease is for up to three named drivers, so your car could be driven by a family member, friend or carer.

Motability’s worry-free car lease package includes:

  • Insurance
  • Servicing and maintenance
  • Full RAC breakdown assistance
  • Annual car tax
  • FREE replacement tyres
  • FREE windscreen replacement
  • 60,000 mileage allowance over 3 year lease

There are many adaptions available, some at no extra cost, and in most cases the original car’s controls and features can still be used, so your nominated drivers can still drive. However, it’s important to bear in mind that most driving controls require an automatic gearbox. Driving controls help with speed control, steering and signalling. When you make an appointment to see one of our specialists, they will be able to help you through every option available.

Ordering a vehicle couldn’t be simpler, simply browse the latest offers across the range to see what vehicle suits your budget or alternatively you can arrange an appointment with one of our experienced Motability specialists who will be able to help you through the entire process and make sure you receive the vehicle that suits your individual needs.

Some larger or higher specification models require an additional upfront payment. This is known as an 'Advance Payment'. The Advance Payment covers the difference between the cost of your car and your allowance paid over the length of the agreement when your allowance alone would not be enough to cover the cost. It is not a deposit and is therefore not refundable.

Our price lists are updated every three months so that we can offer our customers the best deals. We also offer a 'Price Guarantee' meaning the price confirmed at the time of your application the price you pay even if the price changes before you collect your car.

The dates the new prices are published are:

- 1st January - 1st April - 1st July - 1st October

At the end of the lease agreement you will not own the car and it will be returned, you have three options: - Lease another car through the Motability Scheme - You may be able keep your current car if you wish to extend the lease - Return your car and have your allowance reinstated.
